PRR 8973, BS-16M, 1960 |
Description: |
Yard Power. Here is an original photo that I took in Hollidaysburg, Pennsylvania, in July of 1960. Shown here is Pennsylvania Railroad engine #8973, a BS-16M road switcher built by Baldwin-Lima-Hamilton in May of 1951 and rated at 1,600 horsepower. In this context, the crew is pulling a string of cars over the Juniata River Railroad Bridge and past the "Yard Limit" sign. Discernable at the right distance is the PRR's Freight Station. Photo taken just East of the Bedford Street Crossing. |

Everyday. Here is an original photo that I took of a Pennsylvania Railroad train in Hollidaysburg, Pennsylvania, in July of 1960. Shown here is PRR engine #8973, a BS-16M built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works in 1951 and rated at 1,600 horsepower. Its crew is pulling a string of cars over the Juniata River Railroad Bridge and into the Hollidaysburg Yard. Photo taken just East of the Bedford Street Crossing and the Hollidaysburg Passenger Station. Note that one of the crew members is making a call at the HOLLY phone box at the far end of the Bridge. |
