KCS GP40 778 |
Description: |
Kansas City Southern GP40 778 had been built in February 1967 as Illinois Central 3041 (EMD 32861) and was acquired by the KCS in April 1982, after its initial 15-year lease expired. KCS sent it to Morrison- Knudsen’s BOISE LOCOMOTIVE SHOP in January 1994 as partial payment for upgrading 16 GP40’s into GP40M-2’s 4780-4795, and it was scrapped at the Boise Locomotive Shop in June 1996. |

Laying over |
Description: |
A pair of KCS units lays over at New Orleans. These units have the KCS herald on the cab, a great improvement over the plain white that was common at the time. |
