PRR 8351 BIRCH RIVER
Pennsylvania Railroad sleeping car 8351 BIRCH RIVER was laying over between runs at the Louisville & Nashville’s JULIA STREET YARD in New Orleans. This was one of 46 Plan 4140 10-roomette / 6-double-bedroom sleepers ordered by the Pennsylvania, Florida East Coast, Louisville & Nashville, Southern and West Point Route from Pullman-Standard in 1946 for service on the CRESCENT and other Southern Railway trains. All were built between October and December 1949. This car was placed in service on 14 October 1949, became Penn Central 4356 in 1968, was withdrawn from Pullman lease on 27 November 1968, was retired in 1971 and eventually went to the RAILROADER'S MEMORIAL MUSEUM at Altoona, Pennsylvania.
