MBTA 9152
Stored on the back siding between older coaches we found this streamlined Budd built RDC-1, displaying both RDG and MBTA markings. Number 9152 was built in 1962, the last RDC ever constructed by the Budd Company. It is also one of two on the Reading that was equipped with a special device to shunt crossing circuits, allowing it to operate as a single unit while in service. The other, former RDG 9151, survives today in the collection of the Plymouth & Lincoln Railroad of Lincoln, NH. Note that the car still has its grating attached to the engineer's window on the end, an addition by the MBTA to try and prevent rocks thrown by juveniles from injuring employees while in Boston area commuter service.
