Horseshoe Curve-1961. Here is an original photo that I took at the Horseshoe Curve near Altoona, Pennsylvania, on 17 August 1961. Shown here (L to R) are Pennsylvania Railroad engines #9840 and #9510-B. Both were built by GM-EMD and rated at 1,500 horsepower each. #9840 is an EFP-15 constructed in May of 1952, while #9510-B is an EF-15 built in April of 1948 and retired in November of 1962. In this context, they're pulling a westbound string of empty hopper cars around the Curve while passing another train that's on Track 4. Wave to the Fireman! |
