DTI 2-8-4 #704 - Detroit, Toledo & Ironton  Contributor's Pick!       
Still possessing its factory polish and beautiful whitewalled drivers, this Berkshire was built by the Lima Locomotive Works just 2 years before in 1939. Very similar to its earlier sisters built by Lima in 1935, this Berkshire served the DTI well until the mid-1950's. Specs - class 700, 63" drivers, impressive 250 psi boiler pressure, 25x30" cylinders, engine weight of 361,370 lb, tractive effort of 63,244 lb, scrapped between 1953-56. Harold K. Vollrath photo
