Car 3344 was built by Budd in 1947 as Seaboard Air Line 6604, one of six round-end bar-lounge observation cars (6600-6605) initially assigned to the upgraded SILVER METEOR and the new SILVER COMET. SAL added rear diaphragms to three of the cars around 1955. All six became Seaboard Coast Line 5840-5845 and then Amtrak 3340-3345. The car was photographed leaving New Orleans Union Passenger Terminal on the northbound PANAMA LIMITED. (approximate month) |
