A nice collection of classic EMD locomotives can be found working the grain elevators in southern Saint Joseph. BARX GP7R 4126, built as CRI&P GP7 1292 in December 1952, is currently owned and operated by Bartlett for switching around their Saint Joseph grain elevator. CRI&P 1292 was rebuilt into a GP7R at the Rock Island Silvis Shops in March 1976 and was renumbered to CRI&P 4126 while recieving the iconic blue and white "Bankruptcy Blue" livery. A short number of years later, CRI&P 4126 would change hands to the Chicago and North Western following the 1980 collapse of the Rock Island, becoming CNW 4126 and recieving yellow and green paint. After CNW 4126 was deadlined and retired with the rest of the former CRI&P GP7R fleet in the early 1990s, CNW 4126 was sold to Bartlett and recieved fresh yellow and black paint after getting its signature high hood chopped. |
