IC GP10 8025
IC GP10 8025, Chicago, Illinois, August 1979, photo by Chuck Zeiler. I was in the wrong place at the wrong time. This locomotive was built in May 1954 as IC GP9 9025 (c/n 18822) on EMD Order 5307. Tom Parker's IC web site (illinoiscentral.net) indicates that 9025 was rebuilt in 1968 to GP10 8025. It is the only high short hood GP10 I ever saw out of the Paducah Shops. It later became GMSR 8025, then MSRC 1079, then OMLX 1079, and was later scrapped at Wichita, Kansas in 2001. It is seen westbound on the Saint Charles Air Line. I had walked over this bridge to photograph an abandon turntable when I heard this train, turned and shot this photo. The bridge passes over the leads to Dearborn Station. I'm not sure who's turntable it was, but it was just south of LaSalle Street Station. My best guess is that the Rock Island used it to turn steam locomotives assigned to commuter trains.
