A good example of the "3 step protection" application used by the engineer for the conductor's safety and I'm sure peace of mind  Contributor's Pick!       
1)Independent brake in the FULL APPLICATION position; and, if necessary, make a brake pipe reduction sufficient to hold equipment. 2)Reverse lever in the CENTER position. 3)Generator field switch in the OFF position. The 3-step protection can only be removed after the employee who requested 3-step is free from the car and has personally requested removal of the 3-step protection.
