Milwaukee Road 1311 at Bensenville, Illinois on an unknown day in September 1979, Kodachrome by Chuck Zeiler. According to the March 1970 issue of The Official Register Of Passenger Train Equipment, Number 1311 was one of eight cars of this configuration in the 1309-1316 number series. Although listed as a Baggage Dormitory car, it shows seating capacity as 20. It was 75 feet over buffers, equipped with steam ejector air conditioning and an axle-generator and batteries for electricity. |

MILW #1311 & #543 |
Description: |
The #1311 was 1 of 6 baggage-dormitories built by the MILW shops between June and September 1947, having been ordered in February 1946. The #543 was 1 of 54 chairs built by the MILW shops between December 1947 and March 1948 as #498-#551, having been ordered in May 1947. 28 cars were delivered as 48 seat chairs, and 26 cars as 52 seat chairs; #543 had 52 seats. The #1311 and #543 were both retired in 1971 and were later sold to Dakota Rail. The #1311 and #543 are 2 of 3 MILW cars parked in a siding of Dick Samuels' Oregon Pacific RR yard at the UP interchange; the cars are also owned by Dick Samuels.
