Crowd at the station
Title:  Crowd at the station
Description:  The Marathon Maple Festival is on, and as usual the weather is crappy-cloudy and cold. Theres still a good crowd for the train to Cortland, being overseen by a couple of Cortland County deputies. NYSW usually sent classic power for this event-Alcos or a very clean SD 45. Everything must have been running freight, since this looks like a run of the mill GP 39 that was assigned because it was available.

Title:  Heading to the train
Description:  The Maple Festival trains were always well patronized-no surprise given the nightmare it was to park there on that weekend-and a good sized group is making their way to the station for the train about to depart for Cortland. NYSW has their office car on display, which they usually did at the festival.

Local with a mix
Title:  Local with a mix
Description:  SU 2 was the local that worked the Binghamton area and north to Oneonta. Typical power was a pair of units. In CP days, this would be handled by a mix of GP9 rebuilds and GP 38s, with an occasional ex Guilford GP 40 thrown in. During the NYSW era, anything they had could show up, as in this case, a GP 39 and RS 36 holding down the job at Bevier St

MKT GP39-2 384
Title:  MKT GP39-2 384
Description:  Missouri–Kansas–Texas Railroad (reporting mark MKT) GP39-2 384 at Bensenville, Illinois on April 21, 1985, Kodachrome by Chuck Zeiler. Originally built in January 1977 for Kennecott Copper as KCC 783 (c/n 766028-5), it was equipped with a high visibility cab (26 inches higher that the normal cab), the extra 26 inches was removed by National Railway Equipment, resulting in a cab that was then too low. A four inch hump was added to allow clearance to open the cab interior electrical cabinet doors. The MKT acquired KCC's nine modified GP39-2's in 1984, the MKT was acquired by the UP, and MKT 384 became UP 2354 and, in June 2001, became UP 1204.
