TZPR 1521
Title:  TZPR 1521
Description:  Since we were staying in Morton, IL at the Holiday Inn outside of Peoria, we thought it would be natural to follow the CN south to Gilman then follow the TPW over toward Peoria. We started our time on the IC at the main classification yard in Homewood. Things were very dead upon arrival, but we knew we had CN L515 coming north, which usually sports IC SD70s. Unfortunately for us, as it got closer, CN Q119 pulled out of the yard to double up its train. The main parking at the gazebo was closed for construction and we had to park much closer to the yard lead than what we usually would. The odds of the intermodal train eclipsing the local were quite high now.

TZPR 1521

Description:  Industry 2 comes into Pekin with the Illinois River as a backdrop. We wanted to shoot the signal bridges north of town, but unfortunately they were being blocked out by a long string of ADM hoppers.

BNSF 6007
Title:  BNSF 6007
Description:  After the Industry 2 chase, it was time to head up toward BNSF Rails at Edelstein. We knew we had a southbound UP coming toward Peoria, but we never ended up finding it. When we got to the Transon, things were a bit slow, which gave us enough time to head over to the park in Princeville to go look at the planet Uranus. After a quick visit, our first westbound of the day was lit up through town. We went over to the bridge spanning over Princeville Road on the west side of town and shot Z-CHIALT8-23 screaming west.

BNSF 7984
Title:  BNSF 7984
Description:  Outside of Williamsfield there is a small set-off siding that as of last year was still be guarded by an ATSF dwarf signal. However, it appears that the purge finally got to it, as when we went by, we noticed that it had been replaced with a short vader. Not really sure what to call this signal. Its taller than a dwarf but definitely much smaller than a regular signal. I decided since we were here anyway that I would shoot our next eastbound with it. Q-SBDCHI6-16 slowly works its long train into Williamsfield by the signal. The disappointment that that ATSF dwarf was gone was immeasurable, but nothing can last forever.

BNSF 7092
Title:  BNSF 7092
Description:  With a small break in the action on the Transon, that gave us enough time to check into the hotel that way we wouldnt have to this evening. After we gathered our luggage and put it in the room, we got right back out to watching trains. We had both east and westbound traffic coming, so we went downtown to where the grain elevator is located. It didnt take long for V-BLUSBD1-22 to wind the curves around town.

BNSF 9892
Title:  BNSF 9892
Description:  A very sad looking SD70MAC trails on V-BLUSBD1-22. A lot of the older SD70MACs have not had PTC put in them and are currently being sold to lease companies or being scrapped. Its sad to see, but it is nice to see some hanging around the BNSF system still earning their keep.

Title:  BNSF 2356, BNSF 2298, BNSF 4641, BNSF 4339, BNSF 5022, BNSF 5272 and friends
Description:  Moving over to CP GI by the Galesburg Prison, we took a look at the Galesburg deadline. A ton of BNSF Dash 9s are here after the leases will or have expired on them this year. Its a shame to see that some of these units, which arent even all that old, will no longer be running on BNSF rails. Feels weird even. These were commonplace back when I was a child up to maybe 2-3 years ago at most.

BNSF 5022 and friends
Title:  BNSF 5022 and friends
Description:  Despite there being a lot of Dash 9s stored, there is still quite a bit of older power being stored here, including the ATSF Bluebonnet GP7u. If BNSF is selling off all the B40-8s to LTE, it makes me wonder if some of this power might be next... guess well have to just wait and see.

BNSF 6747
Title:  BNSF 6747
Description:  Moving further west, we get back out in the country on the west side of Galesburg. Transcon activity died down a little bit again, but we did have a westbound H-LINGAL1-23 ready to come in to the yard. A number of trains were wanting both in and out of the yard, so LINGAL ended up taking the backway into the yard (going east into town and taking the huge curve back west). We grabbed it right before the double track on the bypass outside of town.

AMTK 11
Title:  AMTK 11
Description:  On the other side of the road was a corncrib. A very nice one I might add, despite all the broken in holes and the caved in roof on one side. Still makes for a nice prop for trains, so we decided to wait on AMTK 3, the westbound Southwest Chief there. Turned out to be a very good idea, and a nice broadside shot.

CN 8935
Title:  CN 8935
Description:  We heard the mainline dispatch give a track warrant out to a train on the Ottumwa Sub with the Number *8935*. Immediately thinking that was a SD70MAC, we went over to Cameron to catch it coming east. Unfortunately for us, it was not BNSF 8935, rather CN 8935. A quartet of CNs isnt all that bad though.

CN 2252
Title:  CN 2252
Description:  We went to get supper at Culvers and I saw that L-CHI103 was getting ready to blast out of the yard north on the Barstow Sub. We hurried to Henderson thinking we would not have much time. We ended up waiting an hour for the train to double up, and even gave up at one point, but after we gave up the train had been lined and we went back. Since it was a local, we assumed it would have some nice standard cab power on the front. Big CN GEs rolled through Henderson at track speed though. Definitely would not have waited on it that long if I would have known this was the power, but regardless. It was a good way to end the day. Show day tomorrow!
