Description:  Massive brute is this 4-12-2 wheel configuration built by Alco-Brooks in 1926 for the Union Pacific, the only railroad to have this type locomtoive. Specs - serial #67026, UP-2 class, 67" drivers, 220 psi boiler pressure, three 27" diameter cylinders (two with 32" stroke and one with a 31' stroke), engine weight of 496,000 lb, tractive effort of 96,646 lb. Description:  Fairly nice color slide of the massive Union Pacific 4-12-2 #9007. The wheel configuration was labeled the "Union Pacific" since UP ordered the only locos built with it. Specs - serial #67030, UP-2 class, 67" drivers, 220 psi boiler pressure,three 27" diameter cylinders (two with 32" stroke and one with a 31' stroke), engine weight of 496,000 lb, tractive effort of 96,646 lb.The loco was "vacated" in Feburary of 1956. Description:  Here is a unique 4-12-2 configuration found only on the Union Pacific roster and its controlling lines like this one. Built by Alco-Brooks in August of 1928 originally as Oregon-Washington RR & Navigation #9705 (a UP subsidiary), it was sold to the UP in September of 1929 and renumbered. .Specs - serial #67601, 67" drivers, 220 psi boiler pressure,three 27" diameter cylinders (two with 32" stroke and one with a 31' stroke)s, engine weight of 496,500 lb, tractive effort of 96,646 lb. Scrapped in 1956. Unknown date, locaiton and photographer.

Description:  Unique to the Union Pacific was the 4-12-2 wheel configuration built by Alco in the 1920's. Eventually 88 of these unique and massive monsters were built. Specs - serial #66544, class UP-1, 67" drivers, 220 psi boiler pressure, three 27" diameter cylinders (two with 32" stroke and one with a 31' stroke), engine weight of 496,000 lb, tractive effort of 96,646 lb. Retired in May of 1956. Eventually preserved at the LA County Fairgrounds, Pomona, CA. The photo is from the collection of Howard W. Ameling.
