Q551 pulling out of the yard |
Description: |
Q551 is seen headed south at Manchester. They had barely gotton out of town when the dispatcher notified them and told them to put their train in the siding at Woodland and continue south engine lite to rescue a phosphate train that had stalled on the mainline between Woodland and Santee. This would be the second time the phosphate train required some help. Earlier they had gotten a push from Rupert to Mauk. This would be the last time as the dispatcher told them to help them into Manchester then go back and get on their train at Woodland and continue south. |

Work train |
Description: |
A NS work train is seen at Hilton GA. It is being widely reported that GWI will soon takeover operation of this line from Albany GA to Hilton GA. NS has been busy the past few weeks gathering up crossties and any type track equipment. I would assume this is in regards to the impending takeover by GWI and NS is removing anything they can use elsewhere. |

Description: |
Q125 on the left is getting a new crew and is about to blast off for Waycross. The head end of Southbound autorack train Q237 is on the right. The locomotives are still coupled to the first 30 cars. The 32nd car derailed as they were pulling into Manchester. Another southbound from Atlanta left their train at Persico and came to Manchester engine lite and pulled the bottom 40 cars of Q237 back past the junction switch at Manchester so train could continue to operate as repairs were made and the derailed cars rerailed. |

More northbound stacks |
Description: |
Q124 is seen here just south of Montezuma having just met 2 southbounds at Dooly. The lead GE unit, a GE wide cab, has experienced engine troubles (Surprise!!!) and is dead. The trailing EMD is providing all the power. The crew of Q124 talked with the mechanical department in Jacksonville to no avail. They were moving slowly when I took this pic as they were climbing a grade but soon picked up speed as they crested the hill. An exasperated dispatcher said he would see what he could do about finding a locomotive for them. The train was 4000ft long but only 2400 tons so it must have been mostly empties. The crew said they could make it...slowly...until they got to Rupert where they said they didn't know if they would be able to make the grades between Rupert and Mauk. |

Problems |
Description: |
I'm not sure what happened here. The crew of this train, Q648, at the north end of Lilly was alerting approaching trains of men and machinery near the tracks as they approached. Q648's train was in the siding which is to my back in this photo and the locomotives had pulled out of the siding and had been uncoupled from each other as seen here. There didn't appear to be any track damage as trains continued to pass by here on the mainline. Perhaps one of the locomotives had derailed in the siding and had been derailed at this point. I never did here anything over the scanner to indicate exactly what the problem had been. |
