This Consolidation is the only surviving example of Green Bay & Western system steam power. That railroad became better known among railfans in the diesel era for exclusively rostering ALCo units up until its merger with Wisconsin Central LTD in the early '90s, even after the builder ceased to exist and parts became hard to come by. |

MCRY 1256 stands ready to take the first train of the day |
Description: |
The somewhat incongrous combo of mid-century diesel switchers hauling early 20th century varnish has ruled at Mid-Continent since the steam locomotives all went out of service. That should change in the near future with the significant progress on #2, and a few more years down the road with 1385. 2024 edit: That statement didn't age well, nearly nine years on from this photo No. 2 is in Orgeon while 1385 is still sl...ow...ly being pieced back together at Spec Machine. |

CBQ 9911A "Silver Pilot" ready to depart with another Nebraska Zephyr excursion |
Description: |
Previously, the first and only time I'd seen this unique locomntive (the only survivor out of only 11 E5 A-units built, all specifically for CB&Q's Zephyr trains) was when it along with the Nebraska Zephyr trainset ran a weekend of special excursions from Chicago Union Station to Quincy and back on BNSF's ex-CB&Q Mendota Sub in September, 2012. I caught it heading west at Mendota. |

MTFR 200 along with fellow ALCo C&NW 1689 were power on the "coach" train |
Description: |
This train consisted of 1910s-vintage Pullman coaches, a bit odd to see strung out behind a couple of road switchers. Still, these marked my first ALCo diesels personally seen in action other a few S-series switchers like No. 7 at Mid-Continent Railway. |
